Wales 0 - England 4
In the final game of the season the Welsh Colleges Women’s side took on a strong ECFA team at USW Sports Park with the Wales team hoping to build on the experiences from playing Australian schools earlier in the year.
The Wales team started the game strongly with some great defending and good build up play, the English team showed their quality later in the half capitalising on some defensive errors to lead 2-0 at half time. The second half followed a similar theme with Welsh Colleges creating some good opportunities but failing to convert their chances, again England proved the stronger side scoring twice more to finish 4-0 winners.
Despite a disappointing result for the team, the fixture offered a valuable learning experience against high-quality opposition and highlighted the squad’s determination and potential. The fixture reflects the growing collaboration and competitive opportunities between Wales and England through the work of ColegauCymru and the Association of Colleges (AoC).
ColegauCymru would like to extend sincere thanks to USW Sport for their sponsorship and continued support in hosting the fixture, helping to create a professional and inspiring environment for the players.
The match also highlighted the importance of international-level competition in supporting the development of learners, offering them the chance to represent their colleges on a broader stage and build confidence both on and off the pitch.

ColegauCymru Chief Executive, David Hagendyk, said,
“Fixtures like this are vital in providing our learners with high-quality, competitive experiences that support both their sporting and personal development. We are incredibly grateful to USW Sport for their ongoing support, which helps make these opportunities possible. Working in partnership with the Association of Colleges to provide these cross-border opportunities is incredibly valuable, and it’s fantastic to see the continued growth of women’s football across our colleges in Wales.”
Welsh Colleges Team Manager, Sean Regan (Coleg Cambria), added,
“This was a tough fixture against a strong England side, but exactly the kind of experience these players need. Competing at this level helps them develop resilience, teamwork and game understanding. The progress in women’s football across colleges is clear to see, and it’s exciting to be part of that journey.”
Welsh Colleges Sport continues to play a key role in expanding opportunities for female learners, supporting the growth of the game and working alongside partners such as the Association of Colleges to strengthen pathways and participation across the further education sector.
