Last week marked the return of the ColegauCymru FE Multisport event to the scenic Pembrey Country Park, welcoming 400 learners and staff from colleges across South and West Wales.

Now in its fifth year, this annual inclusive event - delivered in partnership with Triathlon Cymru and a network of local and national organisations - once again brought together learners, colleges, and community partners to celebrate sport, physical activity, and inclusive participation. It provided learners and staff of all abilities with the chance to try something new, build confidence, and connect with peers in a welcoming and energising environment.

Inclusive Duathlon Event
The beginner duathlon event kicked off the day, offering a 1km run, 4km cycle, and a final 1km run. Designed to be accessible to all, this was a celebration of participation, with many Independent Learning Skills learners and those with additional learning needs joining in thanks to a range of adapted bikes that catered for diverse needs and abilities.

ColegauCymru Sport and Active Wellbeing Project Manager, Rob Baynham, said,

“It was fantastic to see learners and staff coming together at Pembrey for the annual Duathlon. The event was a huge success and a testament to the hard work of everyone involved. The enthusiasm shown by ALN and ILS learners, and those who competed in the elite race, was truly inspiring.”

Competitive Duathlon
The afternoon featured a competitive sprint Duathlon - a 5km run, 20km cycle, and a 2.5km run. With the sun shining and a cool sea breeze, conditions were perfect for both seasoned competitors and first-time racers to take on the course.
