ColegauCymru is delighted to confirm that this month will see our Outdoor Challenge event return for a second year.
The event is designed to support learners who are potentially less active or less likely to have regular outdoor activity experience. We’ll once again be joining forces with our partners The Outdoor Partnership for the two-day event which will take place on 19 and 20 April. College learners will be encouraged to engage in physical activities such as water sports and indoor climbing. For many, this will be their first experience of such activities, which in turn will help promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
With over 150 learners from 11 colleges across Wales coming together to participate, this is set to be another successful event.
ColegauCymru Sport and Active Wellbeing Project Manager Rob Baynham said,
“As we collectively work to recover from the huge impact of the Pandemic on the health and wellbeing of our learners, we’re pleased to be hosting this event once again. Research commissioned by ColegauCymru found that active wellbeing has many benefits and that it can be used as a sustainable, preventative mental health model. This event will support learners and staff in making the connection between being active and wellbeing.”
ColegauCymru Chief Executive David Hagendyk added,
“This is a fantastic event designed to support those learners who continue to be most affected by the fallout from Covid19. We’re grateful for the continued support of Welsh Government in enabling such inclusive events to take place. These projects are critical for today’s and future generations.”
The event will be held at the Rock UK Summit Centre in Trelewis, South Wales. The facility is centrally located to many of the FE colleges involved and in areas where activity levels dropped significantly during the Pandemic. A broad range of learners covering curriculum areas such agriculture, hospitality and catering, motor vehicle, travel and tourism and ILS are set to attend.
