Influence, Innovate, Utilise, Embrace – Raising the profile of Active Wellbeing in FE Colleges

How can FE colleges increase awareness and celebrate their work in improving the wellbeing of learners and staff? Particularly, project delivery that challenges the negative impact of the Covid19 pandemic on the emotional, social and physical wellbeing of colleges communities.

To help in answering this question ColegauCymru has produced an interactive guide for the Active Wellbeing project designed to support all aspects of project communications across a range of platforms.

A recent meeting saw project staff, management and young leaders come together for a training session supported by external partners including Sport Wales, Young Ambassadors Cymru and UPSHOT. Good practice from colleges was also shared including a presentation from Rugby Engagement Officer at Grp Llandrillo Menai, Hannah Hughes on their Active Ambassadors Programme.

The group were challenged to think how they could work towards the strategic objectives of influence, innovate, utilise and embrace, with the use of new technology and the skills of young learners being key discussions. Some of the main topics for discussion included:

  • Influence, how to link project experiences with target audiences to support future development
  • Innovate, making connections with CLIP (the new Sport Wales Communications, Learning and Insight Programme) and identifying opportunities to engage using new technology and social media
  • Utilise, making effective use of the new ColegauCymru website and existing networks at a college, regional and national level
  • Embrace, how best to encourage learners to use their social media skills in creating great content from project activity, providing valuable experience in the process

External presenters included Digital Communications Manager at Sport Wales Paul Batcup, and Sophie Morris of Young Ambassadors National Steering Group, providing valuable knowledge and insight from the sport sector and the work of young ambassadors respectively.
